Confirmation Sunday -
Sunday,
June 1st

On Sunday, June 1st, we will celebrate the Confirmation of ten youth of our congregation. Following two years of Confirmation study, these young people will make a statement of their own faith and be received as confirmed members of Beautiful Savior.

In the Lutheran tradition, Confirmation is the event when youth re-affirm the vows made for them at the time of their baptism by their parents and Godparents. With their own voices they affirm their faith and trust in God and commit themselves to follow the Way of Christ.

We congratulate the youth being confirmed this year:

Making "The Front Porch Connection"

It is a positive cycle: When we feel safe in our communities, we are more active. When we are active, we are healthier. Do you remember a time when your neighbors knew you, your family, and some of the happenings in your life? If you are too young to remember, you have probably heard about it. It is called, "Social Connectivity" and it actively contributes to lower instances of crime, improved health for both young and old, less stress due to people's willingness to help each other, and even a greater sense of security - because more people know each other by name and are familiar with their surroundings. When these qualities are in place, community members are able to experience the benefits of a more active lifestyle.

Community Choices invites you to learn what you can do to strengthen connections in your community and lead a more active lifestyle.

What: ""Making the Front Porch Connection: How do we create safe, active communities?"

Care Connection
-Communion in Homes-

        - Seniors and Kids of Seniors -
The Care Connection Team has updated the Senior Information Directory, which is available on the bookshelves by the office window in the Narthex. There are names of members who have volunteered to drive Seniors when needed, plus info on other transportation services, meal programs, legal services, minor home modifications, personal care, and more. We encourage you to pick one up!

What our Care Connection Team does: We do Communion Visits, meals, rides to the doctor, and blood drives. If you would enjoy learning more about the Care Connection and what we do, please join us. Check the Sunday Announcements for the date of our September gathering.

In Care Connection, we do many things:

Pray for members, call those on the prayer list, provide meals, Communion, rides, miscellaneous information, and set up blood drives. Pastor Jaech makes the initial contact and the team provides follow up care. To protect confidentiality, I keep the only Care list which Pastor Jaech and I periodically discuss.

In my life, I have found that care from friends is also so important. I still remember when my mom sent flowers, Jeanne Roll did Reiki and Ann Giles brought soup when I was sick for 3 weeks many years ago. So, as a member of the great BSLC community, I encourage all of you to help the Care Connection Team by providing support to those in your midst and this can by done in very simple ways:

-By lending an ear when someone is down in the dumps.

-By calling and letting them know your thinking about them. (Leave a message on their voice mail if you miss them.)

-By sending a card of support.

-By providing a meal or taking a family member of a home-bound loved one out for a meal or both.

-By offering a meal that you know is a friend's favorite.

The best response I get is when I call and just lend an ear. Even if I don't know them specifically, I say "Hi, I'm Natalie from Church or Beautiful Savior."

Everyone is so happy to know that someone thought enough to call and care. And that they are not alone in the world because let's face it, sometimes life is tough.

Please join us if you want the help of our care. Just call me!

BSLC Prayer Chain

We now have a prayer chain just waiting to pray for any concerns you may have. please call Joyce Ackley or the church office (254-9243) to get the prayer started.

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything, tell God your needs and don't forget to thank God for his answers." Philippians 4:6

Multi-Generational Events-

We will be planning several special Multi-Generational events this year! If there is something you are particularly interested in sharing with our youth, please let us know!

In our search for a Youth or Faith Formation Leader, we are learning/ solidifying our churches belief in the benefits of the youth spending time and learning from our retired members! You have so much to offer and we have so much to learn!

WINTER HOSPITALITY OVERFLOW PROGRAM-

"After five years, our congregation is a strong supporter of the Winter Hospitality Outreach program in Vancouver and Joyce Catt has been a wonderful coordinator of all the meetings, communication and scheduling that needs to occur to make BSLC participation successful. She is ready to hand the mantle to others and feels a team approach would be ideal to keep this important ministry strong. We are looking for 3-4 people to work together as a team to coordinate the administrative paperwork, meetings, volunteer scheduling for food, and on-site stays. The planning begins in September, so if you would enjoy a team leadership opportunity, please notify Mariellen at the church office or myself."
